Vidya Balan: Dirty Picture's love-making scenes won't be meant to ‘titillate’: She is one versatile actress who can fit into any role. She efficiently played a mother in Paa and a crafty village seductress in Ishqiya. Now, Vidya Balan is all set to stun the audience with her sexy avatar in the movie Dirty Picture, where she plays the south bombshell Silk Smitha.

Based on Silk Smitha’s life, the movie will show her many lovers. Naseeruddin Shah plays the man who actually wins her over. It’s heard that Vidya will have two steamy scenes with the actor. The actress though ready to shun her inhibition wants the scenes to be shot ‘aesthetically’.

We hear the scenes won’t be meant to titillate. Beneath the layer of physical intimacy, there would be romance.

Vidya has never shied away from bold scenes. In fact, right from her first film Parineeta to Ishqiya, she has had intimate scenes with her co-stars.

The prim and propah nari clad in a sari can dare to bare too, proves Vidya quite aptly with her next film Dirty Picture in which she plays Silk Smitha, the sex bomb from south.

South siren Silk Smitha was known for her unabashed display of sexuality on screen in the 1980s. She worked in over 200 south Indian films and her life ended mysteriously when she was found dead in her Chennai apartment in 1996. She was just 35 years old.

Director Milan Luthria, riding high on the success of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, is directing a film titled Dirty Picture on Silk Smitha and has roped in Vidya Balan for the lead role.

“I loved the script and was almost shocked that they (Milan and producers Balaji) thought of me. I was shocked and thrilled because she is so unlike me. Silk Smitha's sexuality is on your face. It is almost offensive,” Balan is quoted as saying by a news agency.

The film’s title Dirty Picture is likely to raise a few brows but Vidya thinks it’s apt.

“I think Dirty Picture is an apt title for the movie. It is reflective of our perception of her. We feel that she could not have made a pretty picture,” Balan added.

From the sombre and brooding Sabrina of No One Killed Jessica to the sexy and bawdy Silk Smitha of Dirty Picture, it would be quite a leap for Vidya. Not for nothing is she lapping up the Best Actress trophies at award functions.

Vidya Balan won't wear too much skin show's clothes in 'Dirty Picture': The choice of actress Vidya Balan to play a hot siren from south, Silk Smitha, in a Bollywood film titled Dirty Picture did raise some brows. After all, Vidya is known for her elegance and grace, what if she may have spouted foul language and done a passionate lovemaking scene in one film.

Silk Smitha, on the other hand, was popular for her well-endowed bosom, her thunderous thighs and unabashed coquetry, apart from her no-strings-attached skin show.

But producer Ekta Kapoor and director Milan Luthria saw Vidya fitting for the role in Dirty Picture. And all this while, there have been apprehensions if Vidya would indeed do on camera what Silk Smitha, the unmatched sex symbol of south cinema, used to do without any hitch. Now, the picture has gotten clearer.

We hear that Vidya Balan recently met producer Ekta Kapoor to lay down a few conditions for her role in Dirty Picture. And what are these conditions? There will be no focus on breasts, nor will there be vulgar dances that involve extensive use of pelvis. These apart, Vidya won’t wear any clothes that reveal too much skin. If anything was left, Vidya will also have a say in choosing the choreographers for the film.

So that leaves director Milan Luthria to rely only on Vidya’s facial expressions and situational titillation woven in the plot to capture the spirit of Silk Smitha.

How true will that be to the image of the hot siren of 1980s and mid 90s? We’ll wait to see.
