Pamela Anderson tensed for monkeys in AIIMS: Hollywood celebrity and an avid PETA activist Pamela Anderson has asked for the freeing of ageing monkeys at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

She is reported to have written a letter to N.C. Deka, director of the premier health institute in Delhi, on behalf of People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) urging for the retirement of the ageing monkeys after watching video footage taken secretly inside AIIMS.

“It broke my heart to see the suffering that is documented in the enclosed video. But the animals suffering behind closed doors at AIIMS must endure this nightmare every day,” Anderson wrote.

“I was shocked to see that rabbits are forced to live in wire-floored cages; the sharp wire digs into their sensitive footpads and can cause their feet to become stuck,” she added.

She also pointed out that many of the monkeys at AIIMS have been languishing in cramped, rusty cages for more than a decade and that one monkey has been suffering in these conditions for nearly 20 years.

'Please, won't you at least agree to retire the animals who have been at AIIMS the longest to a sanctuary?' Anderson asked Deka in the letter.

Apparently, Pamela’s letter hasn’t been ignored and the government is reported to have prepared a bill aiming at regulating experiments on animals by institutions and individuals.

The scenario became so out of control that she had to turn back inside and move out from a different exit.

In the meantime, a scuffle also broke out between a photographer and a policeman, following which, a few other media persons retaliated as well. Other travellers ended up facing the brunt of the frenzy as they weren't able to leave the airport unless the actress did.

Pamela will be entering the Bigg Boss 4 house in Lonavala on Tuesday morning. She will stay with other housemates for three days, and is expected to boost the oomph factor on the show by leaps and bounds. She has been reportedly paid Rs.2.5 crore for her stint on the show, and she is very "excited".

In the letter, Pamela said that the government needs to be proactive in ensuring the rights of the animals.

“Illegal slaughterhouses operate with impunity throughout the country and municipal slaughterhouses have failed to follow the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. The government has also failed to set up any effective scheme whatsoever to address this crisis,” the Baywatch star said.
